2011 Travel Dates

Last year we got to play at home...a lot.  This year we get to travel... a lot.  Now there are two kinds of travel.  There is travel to places like Bluffton and Boiling Springs neither of which is on our schedule this year...thank goodness.  Then there is travel like to Ponte Vedra, Fl and Fairfax, Va (Washington DC) .... now we are talking. So if you are going to Florida and you don't stay on the beach you might as well go to Alabama so on the beach is where we are staying and we hope that will encourage our parental units to follow the team down.  BTW the hotel is minutes from TPC Sawgrass. Just thought I would point that out in case you don't have time to unload the sticks before you pack the car for the trip.   To the left are links for Google map directions to the away games.  Times of departure and from where (high school or Sirrine) will be posted later.

Parent Bus

We have been asked to solicit to see if there are a gaggle (by definition that would be 40 or more parents) of parental units that would be interested in taking a "Parent Only Bus" (which we will refer to henceforth as the Magic Bus) to the distant locations of Knoxville, Ponte Vedra, and Fairfax, Virgina.  The cost would be $40 per person for Knoxville, $80 per person to Ponte Vedra, Florida and $80 per person to Fairfax, Virginia.  The bus would be at the disposal of the parents and would be on their schedule and not the teams.  Of course you would need a "ride captain" to make sure that the wishes of the majority are met and that person would be Mr. John Mansure ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).  So if you are interested please indicate your interest on the polls on this page or the home page.  If you want to take the bus for all three trips please vote three times (Chicago Style).  If we get enough interest we will have Mr. Mansure organize the gaggle for the Magic Bus.

Knoxville Tournament

directions

We will be leaving from Sirrine after school on Friday.  We will overnight at the Country Inn and then return late on Saturday.  We will not be playing games on Sunday. The trip to Knoxville is at least a three hour plus ride and we will be taking a charter bus for this trip.  The Varsity and the JV A will be making this trip. As soon as we get the schedule for the day we will post it here.  This years schedule for the games. Knoxville Schedule.   If you want to stay at the Country Inn with the team you will need to contact the hotel directly at 865 693 4500 and tell them Red Raider Lacrosse Parents which will give you the same rate the team receives.

 Tuesday, February 26/27th

Ponte Vedra, Florida

We will be departing from Sirrine immediately after school on Friday the 25th by charter bus for the 6 hour ride to PV.  We will be taking the Varsity and JV A and both teams will be playing two games.  One against PV and one against Hoover, Alabama.  This will be our first big test of the year and we are excited about the opportunity to continue this series.  Next year we all go to Alabama!  To add to the fact that we get to go to Florida in February  we will be staying at the Marriott Courtyard on the beach in Jacksonville Beach. Sweet!!!!.  This will be a great opportunity for our parents to travel with the team, stay in a very cool area, on the beach, in February and enjoy some of the recreational activities in Florida..... Oh! and watch the boys play some great teams.  Almost forgot about that one.

Saturday night the parents are going to Pussers and we are going to party like it is 1995 or 1999.  Oh no the dementia has already set in.  I hope we can remember how to get back to the hotel from the Caribbean Grille.  As we get closer to the date we will need to make reservations so stay tuned.

If you are interested in staying with the team you need to call the hotel 904 249 9071 and tell them you are with the Greenville Lacrosse Team - Parents rooms.  The block of rooms are limited for the parents so if you want to go and want to stay here you need to call early.  There is a Fairfield Inn directly behind the Courtyard which could also be a lodging option that is close to the team.  The rate at the Fairfield is a little less than the Courtyard.

Wade Hampton

 Saturday, March 26

Robinson School, Fairfax, Va

By this point in the program I am just tired enough from posting these locations that I am capable of saying something "pithy" about this opponent but I am afraid these guys are good and I probably need to keep my "pithy" to myself.  Rated #4 in the State last year in Virginia we are getting dangerously close to the  "hotbed" of lacrosse and if we can see to a win against these guys I think that might just put us on the lacrosse map.  It is going to be a long hard ride up and back but if we are able to hang one on these guys it will speak volumes about the progress of Southern cross.  We will be taking both the Varsity and the Junior Varsity of this trip and we are driving right into the heart of lacrosse country.  Lets hope we come out with all of our digits. We probably should keep our windows rolled up.

 Accommodations

Ok, we are not real sure how we managed this but we were talking to a crappy little Hampton Inn about rooms for $125 a night for the boys when the folks at the Westin (normal room rate at $200 a night) decided they wanted our business.  Yes, as you might imagine telling a hotel that you are bringing 50 plus lacrosse players conjures up (in the minds of the hoteliers) visions of housing Def Leppard only this time they brought sticks.   It is not an easy sell. Anyway either the folks at the Westin realize that are boys are well traveled and know how to act in a hotel or they are desperate for business but they offered us a rate less than the Hampton Inn that includes (drum roll please) a hot breakfast.  So we are pumped. Plus we have also have a room block of 20 rooms for parents at $99 a night (but that does not include breakfast so prepare yourself for a $10 coffee and muffin)

Westin Tyson's Corner (Click here to book your room)

Let me take you back (click the bus)..Please no dancing in your ergo chair someone may be watching.

Ok, this is a quick turnaround trip and it would be great if we could load up a bus (we need 40) to take a parent bus to this event.  Tyson's Corner (our hotel location) has some of the greatest shopping and dining in the DC area.  As you know we don't slum when we go on trips.  Get in touch with John so we can nail down a parent bus for this trip.
